The South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems (SDARWS) recently named Marty Hertel from the WEB Water Development Association, Inc. as one of their Rural Water System Operations Specialists of the Year.
Hertel started with WEB Water in April 1999 as an Equipment Operator and moved to Rural Operator in 2004. He was promoted to Construction Inspector in July 2019 and is the first to hold that position. He holds a Class Ill Water Distribution Certificate, along with Class I certificates in Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection, and Stabilization Ponds. "Marty has demonstrated top-notch knowledge of the system and keeps contractors on task. Projects are moving forward as planned and on schedule because of Hertel", said Eric Hansen, WEB Water Construction Manager.
"Marty consistently provides a solid work product and is a valued member of the WEB Water Team. He is respected by his co-workers and is always willing to lend a hand in tough situations. His knowledge of the WEB Water System is very strong, and he is willing to share that knowledge with other staff," said Shane Phillips, WEB Water Operations Manager.

The South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to enhancing South Dakota's water and wastewater industries by providing training and on-site technical assistance. As a member-driven organization, SDARWS is financially supported through its membership dues and grant programs. Membership is open to all organizations and individuals associated with our industries.
